Burger Print – Dragon Gamification Creating Emotional Engagement Through a Personal Journey
Not every gamification experience needs to be intense, competitive, or challenge-driven.
With Burger Print, the goal was different – to create a more personal experience, where users feel like they are “raising” a character, not just interacting with a system.
Leap Studio and Woay developed a familiar concept, but reimagined in a fresh way.
Users raise a dragon – but not the traditional fantasy type. This is a dragon with a modern, dynamic personality and a distinct sense of style.
IMPLEMENT PROCESS
From the beginning, the direction was not to build a complex system.
It was to create a simple loop that builds emotional attachment.
Users complete tasks → earn resources → take care of the dragon → observe its evolution.
This is not just progression.
It is a personalized journey.
Step 1 – Turn Progression Into A Character With Personality
The dragon is not just a reward or a visual element.
It is the center of the entire experience.
From its initial state, the dragon evolves through different stages. But instead of simply “growing”, each stage represents an upgrade in personality, appearance, and energy.
The visual direction avoids traditional fantasy. Instead, it embraces a modern style – hoodies, accessories, expressive reactions, and a vibe that feels closer to younger users.
Users do not just see the dragon becoming stronger.
They see it becoming cooler, more expressive, and more unique.
Step 2 – Design Visuals That Create Connection, Not Just Observation
The key difference lies in how users perceive the character.
The dragon is not static like a UI asset.
It reacts.
Expressions change.
Movements have rhythm.
Effects reflect its energy state.
Interactions such as feeding, upgrading, or engaging are designed to feel like care.
Not clicking for rewards.
But nurturing growth.
Leap Studio focused heavily on making the dragon feel like an emotional entity, not just an object in the interface.
Step 3 – Connect User Actions Directly To Dragon Growth
The system is designed so that every action has a direct impact.
Users complete tasks → earn resources → use those resources to nurture the dragon.
Every return session brings visible change.
The dragon evolves.
Its state shifts.
A sense of progression is continuously reinforced.
The loop becomes natural:
Interact → Earn → Nurture → Grow → Return
Step 4 – Drive Motivation Through Emotion, Not Pressure
The system may include leaderboards or milestone rewards.
But these are not the core drivers.
What keeps users coming back is curiosity:
What does my dragon look like today?
How has it changed?
Has it become cooler?
Gamification here is no longer just a mechanic.
It becomes a relationship between user and character.
Expert Insights
This project highlights a clear direction:
When progression becomes a character with personality, users are not retained by rewards alone. They are retained by emotion.
The difference is not about adding more features. It is about making users care.
